Ayn Athum is one of the many breathtaking waterfalls in the Dhofar Governorate, located just outside of Salalah in Oman. This area of the country is renowned for its natural springs and waterfalls, with many only visible during the monsoon season, known locally as Khareef.
Ain Athum is one such seasonal waterfall, typically only visible in July and August, depending on the amount of rainfall during the season. During Khareef season, Ain Athum is a popular destination for tourists, especially those seeking respite from the warmer climates of the Middle East. The weather during the monsoon season is perfect for outdoor picnics and exploring the stunning landscapes.
Visitors to Ain Athum will find a bustling atmosphere with many makeshift stalls selling everything from kids’ toys and kites to fresh fruit and snacks. Grilled corn is a common treat sold by vendors for just 700 baiza. Located in Jabal Qara, one of the three mountain ranges in Dhofar, the drive to Ain Athum is truly breathtaking. You’ll wind through lush green mountains and enjoy stunning views on your journey, which takes around 25 to 30 minutes from Salalah city.
